Association of Legal Administrators 2023 Conference & Expo Recap - Day 2

Leanlaw and ALA Banner

Starting the day with yoga and ending with fun and games — oh yeah, that’s balance.

How many new things did you learn yesterday? We discovered midsize law firms are wrestling with practice management tools to access data they need to make more insightful decisions based on their data.  And another thing: AI has everyone’s attention, both in opportunity as well as uncertainty as it relates to Intellectual Property, ethics, and that there’s a need to balance the policies that need to be created in alignment with the opportunities and productivity it presents.

Day Two breakout sessions covered a range of topics relevant to legal administration. You can see our blog from yesterday to see which sessions piqued our interest.

LeanLaw Demo
Tomorrow’s sessions look amazing. Here are a few that we picked to check out:

Hey Boss, Stop Stressing: Let’s Try Financial Planning Backward and Look Ahead
This session will teach attendees how to build a business plan focusing on accurate revenue projections and cost evaluation. Participants will learn how to maximize revenue by understanding revenue triggers, rethinking costs, assigning direct profit margins and ratios to timekeepers, and planning for the future while auditing their plan’s effectiveness.

LeanLaw wants to emphasize the importance of being a data-driven law firm. Transparency and data accessibility is the name of the game.

Legal Support in a Virtual Environment — Ashley Frisch
As remote work becomes increasingly popular, this session will provide insights on building and managing a remote legal support team for a cloud-based law firm. Attendees will explore the changing landscape of legal support professionals and learn how to create roles that attract and retain staff while keeping costs low. The session will cover hiring, training, and managing remote legal support personnel, as well as understanding the needs of a virtual legal support environment.

At the very least, we’re all in hybrid environments — let’s get on board with best practices.

Surviving a Cyberattack: An Interactive Simulation to Prepare for the Worst

Participants in this hands-on cybersecurity exercise will experience a simulated cyberattack and identify potential vulnerabilities in their response plans. The session aims to equip attendees with actionable takeaways and recommendations for improving their firm’s cybersecurity posture, allowing them to better prepare for and respond to potential cyber threats.
LeanLaw wholeheartedly believes that every law firm needs to be ready for this moment. Don’t get caught flat-footed, technically speaking.

If You’ve Got a Problem, Let’s Solve It: Using a Framework for Legal Innovation

The session aims to help attendees learn to address problems with empathy, plan brainstorming sessions that encourage creative thinking, determine the best starting point for change, and emphasize the significance of feedback, celebrating milestones, and continuous improvement. By adopting a human-centered approach and using a repeatable framework, legal professionals can effectively navigate change. Bring in a work issue — let’s work on it together!
